Week Three

This week I finished ripping off almost all of the old upholstery. Then consequently pulling all the extra staples. This week I pulled off the front of the chair
With this stage of my project I feel like I might have scheduled too much time. Of course a lessened stress load can be an amazing thing. I was able to complete the last two weeks of work taking up much less time than I had originally thought. Turns out when you don't have to be super careful things go much faster.
The back of the chair came off easily. I had the back of the chair off in less than five minutes the bottom not so much.
The bottom of the chair gave me a bit more trouble than I was expecting turns out that the bottom was held on with screws that had a hex head the back ones came out easily because I could get them out with a drill but the front ones I couldn’t get at because they are too deep in the wood. I am going to try and find a screw driver but did not have that finished on time if I can’t find or borrow a tool I am going to saw the screws in half. Somehow the bottom of the chair will come off.
Next week I am sanding down the arms an legs of the chair and refinishing them. I do not know what I am going to do about the wicker on the sides of my chair. I will have to research to find the best way to get them the same shade as my chair.

Week Two Staples

You would think you know what is hiding under all that fabric. Well let me tell you, it is nothing like you'd expect. The ENTIRE chair is held together by staples. Just staples. Nothing more, next time you look at a chair just imagine it as one big ginormous staple because that is all it is. Under all the fancy tufting and beautiful patterns is just a big staple. When I started this I was pulling out every single staple.
Then my mom came into the garage and asked why I was being so careful with the pulling out of the staples. Apparently, you don’t need to be so careful with the pulling out the staples. The staples apparently can be pulled out at a later time. You can just kind of rip off the fabric.
This week I pulled off the bottom fabric which is basically a dust cover type of fabric. It is not necessary to to keep this piece for a later because you do not need create a pattern for this piece as I will cut the fabric in the size needed and fold in the raw edges.
I also pulled off the back piece of fabric which I needed to be much more careful with because in two weeks, I will need it to help me create my new pattern.
All in all, this week went fairly well. I still have some staples to pull but I plan on doing that next week when I pull off the front of the chair-uncovering more staples I’m sure!

Week One

The Week of Sharks and Charts

Week one is done, and I really liked how laid back it was. Just fill out your planner and then do your shark tank pitch. Great I can handle that! The shark tank pitch was not all that difficult for me. Although I can probably credit that to speech class sophomore year. The worst part about the pitch was that I lost my sheet with the couple of questions we had to answer and then had to snapchat frantically until someone responded and saved me!Thanks Bailee Lizzy and Kelli!
The planner was a bit more difficult and I had to redo several times. My current planner I fear I won't follow it very well. I think I am going to struggle to follow it because the time I allotted for some things might be too much time but we'll see! If my planner is not correct I guess I will talk to Mrs. Crews and figure it out.
The first two weeks I plan to strip my chair down to the under layer(probably not the technical term) and then hopefully have done a good enough job of stripping so that I did not completely destroy the old fabric. I need the fabric to be taken off carefully so I can recreate the upholstery.
